THE DIVINE NATURE OF JESUS AND THE BIBLICAL MANIPULATIONS OF THE NEW WORLD TRANSLATION INTO 2 PETER 1:1

New World Translation
Simon Peter, a slave and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have acquired a faith as precious as ours through the righteousness of our God and the Savior Jesus Christ

To deny the divinity of Jesus Christ, the anonymous authors of the New World Translation altered 2 Peter 1:1 by adding “the” in front of “Savior”. In fact, in the Greek text the article “tou”, that is “of” appears only once, before “theou” which means “God”. While no article appears in front of “sōtēros”.

The Greek text is as follows:

Symeōn Petros doulos kai aspostolos Iēsou Christou tois isotimon hēmin lachousin pistin en dikaiosynē tou theou hēmōn kai sōtēros Iēsou Christou

The Greek text has “kai sōtēros” (and savior), not “kai tou sōtēros” (and the savior), and therefore it should be translated as follows:

Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours

In his letter, Peter states that Jesus Christ is “our God and savior”. The anonymous authors of the New World Translation introduced the same alteration in Titus 2:13.
